The Farmers Guardian says there will never be a better time to farmers to diversify into wind power and take advantage of generous Government subsidies.
Bill Jackson, from Aeolus Power, says the clock is ticking down before the Government revisits its Feed In Tarriff (FIT) which was introduced in April 2010. Mr Jackson suggests that the Treasury is likely to reduce the rate of pay in difficult economic times, and goes so far as to say that the FITs might change quite drastically as early as 2012.
Our very own Mike Taylor recently visited Ireland on a study tour of renewable energy which added to his knowledge and experience in renewable energy for agriculture purposes. Mike has been successful in gaining planning permission for a number of wind turbines and feels confident that the addition of a turbine on a farm can have a significant impact on energy costs.
"Everyone thinks that permission for a wind turbine can be tricky," says Mike, "but with the Government focusing on 20% renewable energy by 2020, it has never been a better time to apply for permission."
