THE Welsh Government has come under fire following an admission by First Minister, Carwyn Jones, that an announcement on the next phase of its bovine TB eradication programme will not be made until the early months of next year.
The admission comes despite a previous statement by Environment Minister, John Griffiths, to expect a decision before Christmas and repeated calls by the farming unions for urgent action to allow Welsh farmers to plan ahead for their businesses.
“The Welsh Government has now stalled for too long,” Plaid Cymru’s rural affairs spokesperson, Llyr Huws Gruffydd, said today (Wednesday, December 7) greeting the decision with ‘despair’.
“In the summer it announced a review of a programme that was ready to be implemented in order to decide on a new course of action and its review panel met for the last time last month.
“It is clear they have decided on a course of action and yet the Government refuses to make an announcement,” said Mr Gruffydd.
