The Centenary Conference of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers was held last week just outside Cirencester. This year the conference visit was to the Home Farm on the Highgrove Estate and to the gardens at Highgrove House. The Home Farm is entirely organic and takes the opportunity to trial a wide variety of organic production methods. It was a most interesting visit, not least of all to hear more from the Farm Manager about the management of the Ayreshire herd. The output of the herd is less than a traditional dairy herd and the calving index higher, but the lifespan is longer and they are fed very little concentrates.
If you would like to discuss the opportunities which organic farming can offer please do not hesitate to give me a ring.
