UK retailers accused of charging excessive prices for food

A report in the Farmers Guardian comments that UK retailers have been accused of charging 'excessive' and 'unfair' prices for food and warned that they should be facing a Government investigation.

The information comes from a report by Swiss Bank UBS concludes that UK food prices are rising more rapidly than in most other developed countries and do not reflect the level of cost inflation experienced by retailers.

The report highlights Eurostat figures showing overall UK food inflation is running at 4.9%, compared with a European average of just 1.8% and 1.5% in the USA.
