Turning problems into opportunities

It’s been a tough few months in farming with input price inflation and the labour and transport issues becoming the latest problems to hit our industry. However, I recently met with NFU President, Minette Batters, and her positivity about the future of farming was infectious. It's that kind of attitude that is required to turn every problem into an opportunity.

It may seem counter-intuitive given the rapid pace of change in agriculture, but there has never been a better time to put some thought into managing risk and seeking opportunities in your farm business. The most dangerous phrase in farming is 'we've always done it this way' but it is essential to plan and to consider making changes to the farm to enhance your businesses performance.

Farm diversification projects have become increasingly popular.

I would urge any farm to consider diversification, to reinvest or to take advantage of the new grant funding. At Barbers Rural we can offer expert advice on your farming business, discuss the viability of future projects and help to set any lengthy processes, such as planning permission, in motion.

Now is the time to make alterations to your current business plan in order to add value, reduce cost and drive revenue.
