The RSPCA has revealed that it submitted close to 40,000 messages of opposition from the public to Defra's badger culling consultation.

The consultation period closed on 8th December and the RSPCA has said that it replied with concerns that the plans would be unlikely to work and could have severe welfare implications.  A statement by the RSPCA said: "We also enclosed nearly 40,000 petitions, messages and letters from the public voicing their outrage about the plans."
