According to the National Farmers Union (NFU), licences to cull badgers in England should be issued to groups of farmers who have come togehter to form legal entities.
The union has published its response to Defra's consultation on controlling bovine TB in badgers. It supports the Government's preferred policy, option 6, which involves a combination of licensed badger culling and vaccination.
“We believe that in combination with a package of measures, this approach delivered by farmers will ensure that there will be a co-ordinated approach to disease control in badgers,” the NFU said.
It said licences should be issued to groups of farmers and landowners in a particular control area, rather than issued on an individual farmer basis.
