NFU demands more information on Defra cuts.

Farmers Guardian reports that the NFU is asking Defra to provide additional information on its proposed spending cuts following concerns that the Department is not revealing the full extent of the potential impact on farmers.  The NFU has identified some areas where it thinks Defra needs to provide more information if farmers are to have a clear understanding of the economic environment in which they will have to operate in the next four years.

Although the Treasury and Defra have released some details of how the Department intends to reduce its spending leading up to 2015 it does not cover the full extend of the proposed cuts.  The announcement appeared to make 'positive guarantees' about the future of specific spending streams, such as an increase in the High Level Stewardship scheme and funding of major improvements in flood defences and coastal erosion management.
