NFU Cymru backs badger plans.

The Welsh Assembly Government's proprosed draft Badger (Control Area) (Wales) Order 2010 has recevied full backing from NFU Cymru who have described it as a strategy that is centred on the eradication of bovine TB and not the eradication of badgers.  The union makes the point in its submission to the Assembly's badger culling public consultation exercise which closed at the weekend.

The NFU believes that the new proposals will put bovine TB eradication in Wales firmly back on track. 

Stephen James, NFU Cymru's deputy president, said "Let us be clear, this proposed programme is about eradicating the disease, not eradicating badgers - but to achieve our goal of healthy cattle and healthy wildlife we must be able to tackle the disease in both populations."
