Natural England has new deputy Chairman.

The Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has appointed Professor David Hill as Deputy Chair of Natural England, an appointment which will run until 30 Sept 2012.

Defra say that all appointments to Natural England are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process.  The appointment, says Defra, has been made in accordance with the code of practice laid down by the Commission for Public Appointments.

The post has been vacant since December 2009 when Poul Christensen, the previous Deputy Chair, was appointed Chair.
