Government urged not to reduce solar subsidies.

A report in the Farmers Guardian says that the Government is being urged to abandon plans to substantially reduce subsidies for solar energy project.

The Department for Energy and Climate Change is set to unveil its fast-tracked review of feed-in tariffs this week and the review is likely to include controversial plans to slash the tariff available for solar energy projects of anything bigger than 50kW.

Energy Secretary Chris Huhne has argued that allocating money towards larger scale solar installations would mean less for individuals who want to produce their own green electricity.

But the solar sector is arguing that the move will devastate a fledgling industry that has the potential to deliver wider economic and environmental benefits.
