First Milk to increae price by 1.5p / litre.

The Farmers Weekly reports that First Milk is to increase the price paid to farmers from next month, following better market returns and further business efficiency savings.

Suppliers in its liquid pool will receive an extra 1.5p/litre from 1 October, while prices for its cheese and balancing and Highlands & Islands milk pools will go up by 1p/litre. The increases take First Milk's standard litre prices to 27.9p/litre for the liquid pool and 27.5p/litre for the cheese and balancing pools.

Chairman Bill Mustoe said the increases, which followed a 0.2-0.38p/litre increase in July, reflected the co-op's aim to continually improve returns to farmer members.
