Farm Minister Jim Paice has pledged to boost farm production

Farm Minister Jim Paice has pledged his determination to help restore farming and food production to its rightful place within the British economy.

He is quoted as saying that farmers and the food industry have the potential to claw back at least some of the ground lost to food imports as part of Britain's recovery from recession.  He went on to say that there was potential to extend food exports.

Mr Paice acknowledged that the government could not set prices for agricultural produce but did have a responsibility to create a business environment in which farming and food production could thrive.
