Dairy farmers aligned to the Co-op will receive a premium.

Earlier this year the Co-operative group committed to establishing a dedicated milk supply scheme and from August 2011 up to 350 dairy farmers will be received a premium on this milk as aligned suppliers to the Co-operative.

Plans to complete the complex integration of the Co-op's acquisition of the Somerfield supermarket chain will be finalised over the coming months which will facilitiate the new scheme.  The business requires 360m litres of milk to supply more than 4,000 of its food shores.

Tim Hurrell, MD of The Co-operative Group's food business, promised it would develop long-term, transparent relationship with its suppliers.
