Badger cull plans quashed by High Court

Following on from our recent blogs we can report that the Royal Courts of Justice in London have announced that the Badger Trust has won its appeal against the High Court's refusal to grant a judicial review on badger culling.

The next step for the Welsh Assembly is not yet clear but the announcement is likely to cause further delays as Ministers could now be forced to undergo a full legal review of the policy before it can begin culling.

Elin Jones, Minister for rural affairs is said to be disappointed with the judgement, particularly as the court recognises the serious impact that bovine TB is currently having in Wales.  He said that they will need to consider the judges' decision in detail before deciding on their next steps.

The Farmers Union of Wales (FUW) has described teh decision in favour of the Badger Trust as a 'massive blow' for farmers and FUW Director of Agricultural Policy, Nick Fenwick, said he believed that the verdict does not necessarily mean the cull will not go ahead. Read more.....
