SPS payments to start this week!

The Rural Payments Agency (RPA) will begin issuing Single Payments next week, as it strives to improve on its SPS delivery performances of previous years.  Thousands of farmers across the UK will start receiving payments from Wednesday this week (1st December).

The RPA has confirmed it is aiming to make payments in England from day one. Last year, it managed to pay 86,500 farmers (81%) a total of £1.31 billion in the first two days of the payment window.

As ever, the spotlight will be on RPA in particular. After an improved performance last year, the agency faces tougher targets for SPS 2010 of paying 85 per cent of claimants in England by December 31 and 95 per cent of claims by value by the end of March 2011.

NFU SPS adviser Richard Wordsworth said the RPA was now ‘in a better place’ but that this was no more than should be expected in year six of SPS.
