Rural thefts on the increase.

Thefts of vehciles, fuel and metal are causing concern amongst farmers in the Brecon area of Mid Wales.

"The rural community is increasingly concerned not only for their property, but also for their safety, as thefts in rural areas become more common," said Mark Simpson, NFU Cymru's group secretary in Brecon.

“As the price of fuel continues to increase, fuel thefts from farms are becoming more common in the area. Motorists, householders and businesses are all at risk from such thefts and as the price of metal is also soaring, the demand for scrap metal remains high.”

Cheif Inspector of Dyfed Powys Police, Martin Taverner, said “Vigilance is the key to combating these thefts and we would urge farmers and rural dwellers to notify local police of any thefts, unusual activity or suspicious vehicles, as soon as possible, by calling 101.”
