Revised Stewardship Schemes could cost farmers dearly.

A report in the Farmers Guardian suggests that farmers are less than satisfied with the changes to Environmental Stewardship payments which they claim will leave them thousands of pounds out of pocket after Natural England has changed the payment schedule for ES agreements in order to bring it in line with European Commission protocol.

Under the new system, some payments scheduled for this summer will be derferred until the end of the ES agreement.  This means a number of farmers will have to wait until April 2012 for the next round of ES cash.
