Pig prices stable, but no sign of upturn.

A report in the Farmers Weekly says that UK pig prices appear to have plateaued with no real sign of an immediate upturn.

Although the GB Euro Deadweight Adjusted Pig Price for week ending 10 September 2011 dropped from 147p/kg to 146p/kg, weekly contract prices for the week ended 16 September remained stable to average 142.4p/kg, with spot bacon quotes generally between 140-144p/kg according to specification.

Lighter pigs continued to earn modest premiums of between 4-6p/kg and buyers of Freedom Food-accredited pigs were also more active in the market and prepared to pay premiums of up to 4-8p/kg above standard Farm Assured pig quotes.
