Incomes down on Welsh Dairy Farms.

The Farmers Guardian has reported that whilst Welsh beef and sheep units saw average incomes rise by well over £15,000 in the 2009-2010 financial year, the average income on dairy holdings fell by more than £12,283 according to the latest Farm Business Survey in Wales data.

The Survey, funded by The Welsh Assembly government, is independently conducted by Aberystwyth University and involved a representative sampe of 565 farms.

The results for hill and upland dairy farms show the value of outputs fell by 3% while inputs also rose by 3% which lead to a decrease in farm business income (FBI) of 18%, leaving an average level of £47,350 compared with £57,954 in the previous year.

The milk price between the two years fell from 25.7p per litre to 22.8 p per litre, a decline of nearly 11%
