Amateur beekeepers to have lessons to help prevent winter bee deaths.

400 Government-backed volunteer teachers are to help Britain's beekeepers avoid the problem of winter bee deaths.

Defra report that increasing numbers of people are taking up beekeeping as a hobby amid concern over the decline of the honey bee population.  However due to the challenges of pests and diseases, inexperienced beekeepers are losing more colonies over winter. 

400 experts across England and Wales will be trained to teach beekeepers good husbandry as part of a new project under the Government's Health Bees Plan which will run in partnership with the British Beekeeping Association and National Diploma of Beekeeping Board and will be jointly funded by Defra.
