AHDB reveal sharp rise in levy payments.

The Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) have revealed plans to increase livestock and arable levy payments.

The AHDB's three-year plan includes a recommendation to increase the English beef and lamb levy by almost one-fifth and the UK cereal and oilseed levy by 15%, as well as a smaller rise for potato growers.  The board launched a six-week industry consultation on the plan last week.  If approved, farmers would have to find almost £3.7m next year in extra dues. 

Tom Taylor, AHDB chief executive, said: "Where the board is recommending levy inceases the primary driver is the need to deliver specific front-line sector activities."
