What is the Single Payment Scheme?

The Single Payment Scheme has been running since 2005 and is due to draw to a close in 2013.  The scheme is a direct aid payment to farmers and is based partly on the area of land they hold, and partly on historic figures of production and livestock numbers.  Each year the ratio changes between the area and historic elements of the payment with the area payment increasing and the historic payment decreasing.

Payments are made by the Rural Payments Agency and applications must be made by 15th May each year.

Environmental Stewardship Schemes

Environmental Stewardship Schemes are payment based schemes for farmers and landowners for adding an environmental benefit to their farming practices.
