    According to the latest report from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) farmland prices reached an all time high during the first half of 2011, as demand outstripped availability.

    After a bull which had been condemned to slaughter after testing positive for TB proved to be actually clear of the disease, the Animal Health and Veterninary Laboratories Agency has defended the test, saying that it is crucial in the fight against the killer disease.

    Tony Cooper, former chief of the Rural Payments Agency (RPA) received a 'golden goodbye' or more than £300,000 when he left the post last year.

    A report in the Farmers Weekly suggests that a marked improvement in margins is needed across all beef enterprises to allow them to reinvest and pay a decent wage to the farmer.
